Here is a pic of a bird of prey taking off.
These critters are exceptional divers.
Not sure how long they can stay down but I dare say they can move a hundred plus feet doing it. To get pics like this is just plain luck.

Here is another exceptional diver.
Only they dive in head first from various heights. They don't stay under very long but usually come up with a fish in their mouth. I have been trying to get a good photo of this bird all summer and this is the closest one yet.

They keep me amused skating along side my kayak.

I take so many pics anymore that I don't notice them all.
This one I took in July and found it few months later buried in 1500 pics I took that month. It has a butterfly and a bee doing lunch.

Didn't really see much doing the Au Sable.
It has been commercialized and over run by people since last time I did this. Even the Feds were cashing in. Probably less than half way down it I counted over 150 prefab log houses before I decided to quit. I only saw three dear and one raccoon, no large fish what so ever. They had totally destroyed the beaver damns and we only saw one beaver as we neared the Great Lake. There were still a few kinds of birds but few and far between. I doubt I will ever even cross that river again...

At least someone had it together...
...turning this old factory office/warehouse building in Belding Mi. into an apartment complex. It is actually beautiful in its own way. (It is so sad they could not save the clock tower from the people that own it, money can be a terrible thing sometimes.)
